Excerpts and Definitions and Addendums: The densest concentration of Neolithic 2 sites known in the Levant is in Palestine and the adjacent regions of Transjordan, the Negev and northern Sinai. This is because since the First World War more excavations and surveys of prehistoric sites have been carried out in this region than anywhere else in the Near East. These endeavours have yielded a rich harvest of archaeological information particularly about Neolithic 2 sites but the very abundance of the remains has raised problems of interpretation because until recently it has not been possible to relate cultural and economic developments in this region to the Levant as a whole.
