The site of Quseir Qadim is eight kilometres north of the modern town of Quseir on the Egyptian Red Sea coast. It was thought to be the relatively minor Roman port of Leucos Limen, a view apparently confirmed by a somewhat enigmatic ostracon.
Old Quseir was in reality the site of Myos Hormos, a Ptolemaic and Roman port engaged in trade with India and by any standards one of the great trading centres of the ancient world.
