Site located in the Samaria hills. The mound's area is approximately 10 hectares (25 acres). Tell Farah (North) is identified with Biblical Tirzah -- briefly the royal residence and capital of the Northern Kingdom of Israel until Omri's founding of Samaria. The site's first significant material comes from the Chalcolithic Period. Tell Farah (North) was destroyed by the Assyrians in 723 BC (1).
