It was thought to be the relatively minor Roman port of Leucos Limen, a view apparently confirmed by a somewhat enigmatic ostracon. Old Quseir was in reality the site of Myos Hormos, a Ptolemaic and Roman port engaged in trade with India and by any standards one of the great trading centres of the ancient world.
